More than 250 brands showcase their latest designs at Decorex, from wallpaper to fabrics and furniture to lighting, but it’s more than a place to catch up on what’s hot in the decorating world – it’s increasingly focused on what’s next. The show has gained a reputation for its ability to give new, breakout designers a platform.
Nobody knows that better than Natascha Maksimovic (otherwise known as Nat Maks), the artist and wallpaper designer who is behind the look of this year’s exhibition. Her signature suminagashi marbling technique is a key part of this year’s show branding and she’s open about the effect Decorex has had on her career, saying, ‘the recognition and support the show provides to new craftspeople is invaluable’.
Part of 2022’s interactive Making Spaces feature, she this year makes way for future stars of craft from the likes of Cockpit and The Black Artisans who will be showcasing their skills.
What's everyone reading?
Another part of Decorex’s focus on the design landscape of tomorrow is its Design Talks programme, which sees leading interior designers – Linda Boronkay and Natalia Miyar are highlights – debate the key trends and topics affecting the design community. Our own Editor-in-Chief Ben Spriggs will be taking part in the conversation too (see below for details).
Then there’s the collaborations. From the moment you walk through Olympia’s doors, you’ll be greeted by bespoke spaces curated by top brands. Online vintage experts Vinterior have dressed the entrance in some of their favourite pieces, while the Decorex Café will become a shrine to coffee and colour, daubed in the brightest shades eco-paint brand YesColours has to offer.
Plus, for those lucky enough to have access to the VIP suite, Lady Linbury’s Boudoir awaits. A daring hideaway dressed in silk, lace, velvet and animal print, this talking point of a space by Brian Woulfe of Designed by Woulfe is intended to help you find peace with your ‘discomfort zone’, taking inspiration from the truth that good designers need to be comfortable having uncomfortable conversations with their clients. Avoid the discomfort of missing out on your spot by booking a ticket now (and enjoy a 10% discount for ELLE Decoration readers) at decorex.com
If you attend one talk, make it this one...
‘Ask the Designer’, 10 October at 3pm
